General Requirements for Nigerian Navy Recruitment

  1. Age requirements: applicants coming with School Certificate qualifications must be in the age bracket of 18-22 years while those coming with higher qualifications must be in the age bracket of 18-26 years
  2. Citizenship: all applicants (irrespective of their preferred job categories) must be citizens of Nigeria by birth
  3. Marital status: applicants should note that Nigerian Navy’s recruitment exercise is not open to married individuals or those with children
  4. Height measurement: male applicants must measure at least 1.69m in height while their female counterparts must measure at least 1.65m
  5. Health status: applicants must be in good health and must be free from any of the following defects –stammering, physical disabilities, mental problems, auditory impairment, communicable diseases and visual impairment
  6. Criminal status: applicants must not be guilty of any past criminal conviction by a court of law
  7. It should also be noted that the recruitment exercise is not open to people with tattoos on their bodies
  8. Applicants are mandated to present their National Identification Numbers (NINs)
  9. Educational/professional qualifications: applicants are expected to present any of the following qualifications,
    • Senior School Certificate or West African School Certificate (obtained in not more than 2 sittings and within 6 years from the application date) or its equivalent (such as General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (GCE), NABTEB (National Business and Technical Examinations), National Examination Council (NECO), WAEC City and Guilds or London City and Guild, etc.)
    • Ordinary National Diploma (OND)

Document Requirements for Nigerian Navy Recruitment

The following are the documents every applicant is mandated to present at Nigerian Navy’s recruitment centre:

  • Parent/Guardian Consent Form properly signed by the applicant’s guardian or parent
  • Scratch card(s) of the applicant’s WAEC or NECO results
  • 4 passport photographs each bearing a stamp at the back and properly signed by the applicant’s guardian/parent
  • Properly filled Identification Form signed by Secretary/Chairman of applicant’s LGA, officer in the rank of Commander or of higher status, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) OR similar officer of higher rank. Notably, the officer, Commander or CSP must come from the same state of origin as the applicant
  • Photocopies of the applicant’s credentials
  • Photocopies of the applicant’s Birth Certificate or equivalent document (such as an affidavit of age declaration)

 

Other Important Notes

  • In the course of the selection interview, applicants will have to tender their primary school leaving certificates
  • SSCE or any of its equivalents is the required qualification for admittance into the following categories –B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, C1, D1, D2, D4, D5, D6, E1, E2, E3, E4, F1, G, and H.
  • Applicants are advised to declare/provide/tender all the required qualifications or certificates (in their possession) at the point of recruitment. The reason for this is that the Nigerian Navy will not accept any certificates/qualifications tendered/declared after its recruitment exercise given that such certificates/qualifications were not submitted (by applicants) during recruitment. Even in the instance that a Nigerian Navy member needs to tender a particular qualification in order to advance their position or change their department, such a qualification will not be accepted provided that it was not tendered during recruitment
  • It is required of each applicant to have hard copies of duly endorsed Local Government Attestation Form and Parent/Guardian Consent Form. These forms are to be submitted during the Nigerian Navy’s job interview
