How to link National Identity Number (NIN) with your phone number

Follow these steps to link your Phone number up with your National Identification Number (NIN).

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had given directives to all telecommunications service providers operating in Nigeria to block all SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers (NIN) within 2 weeks.

What this means to subscribers is that they will lose their SIMS if they fail to comply by linking their phone numbers with NIN. Phone numbers that are not linked to subscribers’ National Identity Number before December 31, 2020, will be blocked/disconnected.

However, there’s been a bitter outcry against it by the members of the public due to the short time frame given to users to pull through the excersise.

The Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has further affirmed that subscribers can link their many SIM cards to their NIN database, they can do this by visiting the nearest office of their service providers.

We have made this guide, to help Nigerians, who might still be in the dark on how to have their phone number(s) linked up to their NIN.

Here are a few steps to link your phone number(s) with your NIN;

  • To link your MTN phone number to NIN, simply dial *785# on the phone number you wish to link up, proceed by keying your NIN and submit or;
  • You can as well Dial *785#Your NIN# from the MTN phone number you wish to link. MTN network will have the phone number linked up to your NIN automatically.
  • You can also visit https://mtnonline.com/nin/ on your mobile or PC, on the page, simply submit your name, last name, phone number, National Identity Number, and Email address to have your number linked up, you will get feedback from MTN once your details have been processed

Follow the steps below to link your Airtel Nigeria number to NIN:

  • Dial *121*1# on the Airtel line you want to link up
  • Key in 1 to “enter your Government approved NIN Number” and send.
  • Key in your 11-digit NIN number
  • Wait to receive a confirmation message from the network, in case you get an error message, you can try the process again later.

Pairing Airtel Number to NIN By SMS

You can pair your phone number with your NIN by sending SMS START to 121 using the Airtel number you want to add to your NIN. Follow the onscreen instruction to complete the process.

Visit the nearest 9mobile office close to you to have your NIN linked up with your phone number, make sure you go with a valid ID card, your SIM card(s), and NIN number. If you cannot get your SIM pack, be ready to swear an affidavit.

To link your 9mobile numbers to your NIN, visit:

https://nin.9mobile.com.ng/ in your PC or phone browser.

Next enter the 9mobile phone number you wish to link up.

Use the OTP sent to your phone to proceed to the next step.

To link up your Glo numbers. Send UPDATENIN number firstname lastname to 109 as text.

In this format:

12348696990 Femi Emeka

Then send as text message to 109 with the SIM you wish to link.

Do this for all Glo numbers you wish to link up your NIN.

Visit this link and key in your Smile login credentials and password to have your Smile number linked up. How to get replacement for your lost NIN slip

National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has directed that, individuals who have lost their NIN slips or print outs can have a new one printed following the steps below.

NIMC directed such people to make a payment of 500 naira through the REMITA payment platform or at any commercial bank close to them.

They can then proceed to the nearest NIMC office with the evidence of payment to get a new slip printed out.

Meanwhile you can get your NIN also by Dialing *346#.
