Alex Turner Short Bio
Alex Turner and Jamie Cook were neighbors in a neighborhood located in Sheffield, IN the UK. It was 2001 when the young people asked for musical instruments as a Christmas gift, with which they would spend their free time. After a few months, both had learned to make use of them on their own, so they came up with an even better idea: to join with other friends to create a group.
At the time Alex Turner thought of some classmates at his school, Stocksbridge High School. It was Matt Helders and Andy Nicholson, whose drum and bass skills, respectively, would complete Turner’s vocals and Cook’s guitar. However, this was not always the case, as at first the lead vocalist was Glyn Jones, who left the project shortly after he started it.
Likewise, the other musicians did not stop creating new productions, although always with the intention of being distracted in their spare time. For this reason, the British met at Yellow Arch Studios and soon had the opportunity to perform at a venue called TheGrapes, located in his native Sheffield.
The true popularity of Arctic Monkeys came thanks to its fans, who began to spread the demos created by the band over the Internet. The group, for its part, was unhappy about what its audience was doing.
The albums Humbug and Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino had a similarity in the nature of their tracks. The same members said they are “mystical and dark” records.
Because all Arctic Monkeys productions were rolling around the web, it was no wonder all his fans knew their songs by heart. This greatly helped the band’s popularity, as being free, its content had a wider reach. To be more specific, it was MySpace that circulated their demos.. In this regard, the musicians once commented that:
We didn’t know what was going on. We were in all the media, they talked about MySpace and our popularity. We didn’t even know how to put our music on the web.
Despite not having a clear idea of the fame they had acquired, the British took advantage of it and then released their first extended playlist, an EP titled Five Minutes with Arctic Monkeys. This happened on May 2005, and the audience hosted such that they started a series of concerts in the UK, all crowded at their maximum capacity.
This was the first step for the band to host their debut studio album, which had their name Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, on January 23, 2006. With 363,731 albums sold in its first week, Arctic Monkeys broke UK sales records, representing undisputed success.
On April 23, 2007, Arctic Monkeys presented their second record production, which was titled WorstNightmare. Unlike the other songs in, the group, this time they were much louder and more focused on their main genre, rock. Its success was not expected, and shortly after its release, the album was already leading the charts.
His other musical productions include Humbug released on August 19, 2009, Suck It and See on June 6, 2011, AM on July 15, 2013 and Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino on May 11, 2018. For its part, some of the most important awards of this group have been the Mercury Award, some NME Awards, other Brit Awards and a UK Festival Award.
