On the 10th day of April, 1957, Aliko Dangote was born into a wealthy family of Mohammed Dangote and Mariya Sanusi Dantata in Kano, in the present day Kano State; a state in Northern Nigeria.
He is of the Hausa descent and a Muslim by religion. Aliko Dangote is a great grand-son to Alhaji Alhassan Dantata, the richest man in West Africa as at 1955.
Alhassan Dantata made his fortune selling commodities like oat and rice. Therefore, Aliko Dangote grew up knowing the business and having that entrepreneurial mindset of his family.
As he grew up, the need to get formal education arose. He was therefore educated at the Sheikh Ali Kumasi Madrasa and from where he moved to Capital High School, Kano.
