List of Oil Companies Operating In Akwa Ibom State

Nigeria is acclaimed for oil production precisely as the oil sector contributes the largest portion of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP). With Akwa Ibom considered Nigeria’s largest producer of oil, it is interesting to find out the oil companies flourishing in the state through their vast oil dealings.

But before that, here’s something you should know about Akwa Ibom.
Akwa Ibom is a state in South South, Nigeria, with a population estimated around 5 million people. It is well known for a vast deposit of oil, making it Nigeria’s biggest oil-producing state. While there are several oil producing states in Nigeria (some of which belong to the Niger Delta region), Akwa Ibom contributes about 31.4% of Nigeria’s oil output.

The state is reported as producing a great deal of oil amounting to 504,000 barrels of oil on a daily basis.
Although Akwa Ibom is endowed with various other minerals including clay, glass, coal, salt and limestone, the state is most famous for its enormous oil. While Akwa Ibom happens to be a coastal state, its territory is mostly dominated by three ethnic groups: Ibibio, Annang and Oron.

Uyo and several other Akwa Ibom cities are pleasant places with thriving oil and gas businesses. Of course, some entrepreneurs are exploiting the oil potential of Akwa Ibom in raking in huge sums of money.

However in spite of this, some communities in Akwa Ibom are out of favour as regards getting their fair shares of Nigeria’s oil proceeds.

Sadly, same can be said for some communities in several other Niger Delta states such as Delta and Rivers. And this often triggers a nationwide debate as to why the people of Niger Delta have not substantially benefited from Nigeria’s oil wealth. This, to some Nigerians, is considered an indication of marginalization by the Nigerian federal government but factually, this article is not aimed at discussing that.
