Elon Musk, founder of electric car maker, Tesla, has denied rumors that electric cars made by his company could be used for espionage purposes in China or any other country, reports The Guardian .
Speaking online at the China Development Forum, Musk commented on rumors circulating that Chinese authorities would restrict the use of Tesla electric vehicles by the military because of a potential threat to national security.
There’s a very strong incentive for us to be very confidential with any information,” said the world’s richest man, “If Tesla used cars to spy in China or anywhere, we will get shut down.”
The business mogul, who recently changed his job title, also implored that the two largest economies in the world, the United States and China, should trust each other more.
Prior to this, the Wall Street Journal, citing its own sources, had reported that the Chinese government believes that the electric car of the American manufacturer may pose a threat to national security, thereby causing the government to restrict its use by employees of military and strategic enterprises, as well as government employees.
According to the newspaper, a number of Chinese government agencies have asked their employees not to come to work with these cars. According to sources, owners of Tesla cars are not allowed to enter the premises of houses where employees of strategically important enterprises and government agencies live.
