Wizkid Biography

Wizkid was born on July 16, 1990, in Surulere, Lagos State, Nigeria. He grew up in his hometown with 12 other siblings who all happened to be female.

His father, Muniru, had three wives and Wizkid emerging as the only son of his own mother, Jane.

Wizkid completed his basic education in his hometown and he attended the Ijebu Ode Grammar School, Ogun State, Nigeria. After completing his secondary education, he got an admission to study his tertiary education at the Lagos State University (LASU).

In 2009, Wizkid dropped out of the university so as to focus majorly on his music career but later attended the Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State. Although, he only spent just two sessions at the University before dismissing himself.

Wizkid Career

Wizkid’s music career can be traced back to 2004 when he started watching on 2face, Nasty C, and other music legends at the OJB’s Point Beat Studios.

Wizkid was said to have been mentored by the popular Nigerian rapper, Naeto C while he was around 15 years of age.

In 2009, he was signed into the Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment record label and was helped to make, publish, and market his music while at the label.

In June 2011, Wizkid released his first debut studio album which was titled, “Superstar” and was produced by Banky W, Shizzi, and other top producers in the Nigerian music industry.

In March 2013, Succeeding Wizkid’s exit from the Empire Mates Entertainment record label, he took to his twitter handle to announce the launch of his own record label which was named Starboy Entertainment.

The label was said to have been created for the sake of helping young and upcoming artistes to showcase their talents and become known in the highly competitive music industry.
