The Chief Justice of Nigeria or CJN is the head of the judicial arm of the government of Nigeria, the CJN oversees National Judicial Council as well presides over the country’s Supreme Court.
This is 2019, as reports have it, The president of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in a new Chief Justice in the Name of Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed from Bauchi State.
This happened after Current CJN Walter Onnoghen was suspended by the President based on order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal dated January 23, 2019.
The swearing of the New Chief Justice of Nigeria Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed took place on Friday January 25th, 2019 afternoon inside the council chamber of the State House, Abuja.
There are have been heated arguments on whether the President have the Veto to do that, the president signed the new Executive order 007 and the swearing in of the new Justice of the Federation was done.
Justice Muhammed Tanko Biography
Justice Muhammed Tanko was birthed on 31 December, 1953 at local government area in Bauchi State.
He schooled at Government Secondary School, Azare, where he had his West Africa School Certificate in 1973. He proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University where he bagged a bachelor’s degree in Law in 1980.
He was sworn in as the New Chief Justice of Nigeria on Friday January 25th, 2019 afternoon inside the council chamber of the State House, Abuja.
He was formerly a Justice of the Nigerian courts of appeal and Nigerian jurist and Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
He further obtained a Master’s degree in 1984 and a Doctorate (PhD) degrees from same Ahmadu Bello University in 1998.
Tank started his legal career as he was called to Bar in 1981, and in 1982, he graduated from the Nigerian Law School and his career was full fledged.
His first appointment was not until 1989, as the Chief Magistrate of the High Court of Federal Capital Territory, an office he held till 1991. Same year, he was appointed as a Judge at the Bauchi State Sharia Court of Appeal two years before the Bench of the Nigerian courts of appeal appointed him as Justice in 1993.
He served in that office for 13 years , and in January 7, 2007 he was sworn in to the Bench of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
