Since the conclusion of the 2019 February 23 National Assembly elections, the whole 109 seats of the NAE have been occupied. Kashim Shettima who is the outgoing State governor of Borno State has been re-elected to represent Borno Central in the Senate.
The inauguration of into the Nigerian Senate on Friday, July 26, 2019, Benjamin Uwajumogu was also inaugurated into the senate making the All Progressives Congress (APC) have an upper lead in the upper legislative chamber.
109 seats o far in the chamber has now been occupied, APC claims 64 seats while the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won only 44 seats.
