Snake bite:
An injury caused by the bite of a snake leaving two puncture wounds, causing redness or swelling of the bitten area, difficulty in breathing, unconsciousness and intense pain especially if the snake is venomous.

Over 2900 species of snakes are found. Most of them are non-poisonous but cause severe infections like tetanus whereas a bite of poisonous snake can be fatal and one should always call for emergency in this situation cause its very essential

We all have grown up watching movies which show many ways to deal with snake bite but probably most of them are not actually true like sucking the venom and then releasing the venom. When snake bites, its venom is injected into the tissues not in the vein or not necessarily into the blood. Cutting the wound is not also helpful but cause more risk of infection.

Here Is what to do when bitten by a snake

First Aid:
As there are many types of snakes and like that their bites are to be treated differently accordingly. The area of bite is also very important. One should know the basic first aid tips in order to help himself or others in case of snake bite.

1. Don’t try to catch or kill the snake as it can increase the risk of further bites.
Try to stay calm and keep the causality calm because stress can increase the blood flow.

2. Don’t move the causality as movement can cause the spreading of venom more quickly.
Note down the color and type of snake which can be helpful in further treatment.

3. Don’t suck the bitten area or cut the wound as it can increase the risk of infection.

4. Clean the infected area but avoid icing or washing the area with water.

5. Tie a piece of cloth above the area the victim has been bitten,this is to stop the venom from spreading.

6. Cover the wound with sterile bandage loosely.

7. If causality is wearing any jewelry which is causing swelling, remove it.

8. Loosen up the buttons or tight clothing of the causality to make him breathe easily.

9. Keep the wounded area lower to the hearth to decrease the blood pressure.

10. Avoid giving anything to the victim to eat or drink.

The only remedy for venomous snakebite is the anti-venom serum, which is available at most government hospitals and public health centers. Some private nursing homes have also started stocking it and treat snakebite cases.

Immediately call for help and take the patient to hospital as early as possible.
