Funke Akindele was born on August 24, 1977, in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

She was born into a family of 4, and happens to be the second child of the fammily.

Her father was a retired school principal, while her mother worked as a Medical Doctor.

She grew up in Lagos where she had her Primary education at the Grace Children Schools Gbagada, after which she then completed her secondary education at the Lagos State Model College, Igbokuta.

She then went further to study her tertiary education at the Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), where she had obtained a National Diploma (ND) in mass communication.

Funke Akindele was recognized in one of her movie debuts, I Need to Know, where she played the role of Bisi, a highly intelligent secondary school girl.

The show, which was sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund, started in the year 1998 and run till 2002.

In 2008, Funke Akindele had her big breakthrough from her debuted movie, Jenifa, where she played the lead role.
