[Facebook] Review posts you’re tagged in and control who can tag you to a post

Facebook post tagging and how you can control it

People have different ways of expressing themselves on social networks – by commenting, by sharing other peoples post, by posting status update, and by reactions. All of these can be done on most social network platforms including on Facebook.

Either it is something useful that is being posted or something that make no sense at all, people want their voice to be heard at all cost, which is becoming a pain in the ass for those that treasured their time and aim to focus on important things and pressing matters.

Tagging is one of the annoying ways people sort after to get attentions on Facebook. When tagged to a post, the person tagged will be directly included into the conversation without his/her consent. What’s more annoying is that the post the person is tagged in will appear on the person’s timeline.

For example, if Katrina and Caroline are friends on Facebook and Caroline make a post about how to feed a cat and tagged Katrina to the post, the post will also appear on Katrina’s wall, without her consent. To drive engagement and reactions, to be hailed and praised, to be “liked” and “wowed” and “loved”, people use tagging selfishly, even if it means disrupting the comfort of other users.

Facebook, however, do provide a means for users to control who can tagged them in a post and to also review the post if they want it to appear on their timeline or not . This is very important and I suggest every Facebook users should go through these settings to put some checks in place. Tagging is becoming more of a plaque on Facebook these days and it is often used by those who feel insecure about themselves and their lives.

To change who can tag you in a post, and to review the posts you are tagged in before they appear on your Facebook wall, follow the steps below:

Step 1

Facebook newsfeed

Go to https://mbasic.facebook.com on your mobile browser and enter your username and password to sign in. You’ll be lead to your homepage or newsfeed. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select “Settings and Privacy” as indicated in the above image.

Step 2

Privacy settings

Under “Privacy”, select and “Timeline and Tagging”.

Step 3

Timeline and tagging

Now, you will see four different options as indicated in the image. Two options under “Tagging” and another two options under “Review”. Make changes to these options as shown below:

Simply tap on each option and make changes accordingly

Tagging

1. Who can see posts you’re tagged in on your timeline: Friends

2. When you’re tagged in a post, who do you want to add to the audience of the post if they can’t already see it: Friends

Review

1. Review tags people add to your posts before the tags appear on Facebook: On

2. Review posts you’re tagged in before the post appears on your timeline: On

After you have made the changes, whenever people tagged you to a post you’ll first be notified by Facebook and asked to chose if you want the post to show on your timeline or not. Also, only your friends (people you have accepted their friends request and people that have accepted your friends request) will be able to tag you to a post.

In addition, if you chose to show the post you are tagged in on your timeline, only your friends will be able to see it while it will be hidden from other Facebook users.
