This article contains the updated NYSC allowance for all States in Nigeria.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a one-year program in Nigeria that involves the deployment of graduates to different parts of the country for national service. During this period, corps members are entitled to receive a monthly allowance from the Nigerian government.
As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the monthly allowance for NYSC members was N19,800 (nineteen thousand, eight hundred naira) per month. However, it’s important to note that the government can review this amount periodically, so it’s always advisable to verify the current allowance amount from official sources.
The NYSC allowance is meant to assist corps members in meeting their basic needs during the service year. While the allowance may not be substantial, it is intended to supplement other resources and support corps members in their service to the nation. It’s important to manage the allowance wisely to cover essential expenses such as accommodation, feeding, transportation, and personal needs.
It’s worth mentioning that in addition to the monthly allowance, corps members may also be eligible for other benefits, such as the transportation allowance, which is given at the beginning and end of the service year to cover the cost of transportation to and from their places of primary assignment.
Furthermore, some states or organizations may provide additional support to corps members. These support systems can range from increased allowances to accommodation provisions or even employment opportunities after the service year. The availability and extent of these additional benefits can vary depending on the state and organization.
It is well known that every Nigerian graduate must undergo a one-year compulsory National Youth Service program through National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or get an exemption certificate before they can fully be certified to work anywhere they choose in the country.
Of course, during the application for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) where one is given the opportunity to choose their preferred states, everyone wants to choose a state that will pay them some extra allowance aside from the general NGN33,000 paid by the Federal Government.
Even after receiving the posting letters, every prospective corps member wants to be sure that they were posted to a state that will pay them extra cash, everybody loves something good!
This article will certainly help you in making the right choices for a good state to serve in and boost your morale when you are finally posted.
How Much are Youth Corpers Paid in Nigeria?
While serving in NYSC, the Federal Government pays every corps member an allowance of NGN33,000 every month.
Some states also pay corps members state allowance while some do not pay them, they just allow the corps members to learn how to manage their allawii.
Some are even more fortunate to receive allowance from their Primary Place of Assignment (PPA) while others don’t which most times comes either by luck or determination.
How much is State Allowance in Nigeria?
Not all state pays their corps members. The amount paid (State allowance) varies depending on the state. It can even increase or decrease at any time depending on the administration of the present leaders.
While some states are paying very large amounts some are paying small amounts of money, at least it is better to receive little than to receive nothing at all!!
Which PPAs are likely to Pay Corps Members?
Most government-owned organizations like government schools, ministries, etc, do not pay corps members any extra money aside from their federal and state allowance.
Though there can be a few exceptions depending on the sector you are working with and also depending on the state you are serving.
Private sectors on the other hand usually pay their corps members a little allowance depending on their negotiation with the CEOs of the organization.
That is why most serious corps members want to work with private sectors where they can earn some money and possibly be retained at the end of their service year.
Which State Pays Highest in NYSC?
Currently, Lagos State and Oyo state pays the highest in NYSC, paying a huge amount of NGN15,000 as state allowance to their corps members.
This has made the states to be the most sort after states by prospective corps members in Nigeria.
