Microsoft on Thursday (July 24) officially introduced its next major Windows update dubbed Windows 11. At the event, the company made known the requirement for PCs that will be eligible for the update, among which is TPM.
What is TPM?
TPM is an abbreviation for “Trusted Platform Module”. It is a piece of an hardware that can be found in some laptops and desktops. What it mainly does is to make the device more secured by adding an extra security layer on top of the security provided within the operating system that is installed.
Not all laptops and desktops have TPM. The premium-line from major PC manufacturers like HP, Dell, and Asus are bound to have TPM. Even my nine years old HP EliteBook 8460p have TPM. It depends on the type of system that you have.
How to check if your system has TPM
You can check by pressing the Windows key + R key (hold Windows key then press R) to launch “Run“, then type tpm.msc in the text field and click ok, or you can hit the enter button.

As shown in the image above, my laptop has TPM enabled. I suggest you check yours before deciding to upgrade your PC from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
