The Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) is one of Nigeria’s oldest indigenous commercial banks. It was founded on the 17th of January 1990, when the Nigerian government granted a license to establish the first national private bank in what would become independent Africa.
The GTBank operates branches and ATMs in a growing number of African countries including Ghana, Gambia, Liberia, Cote D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Sierra Leone, and the Central Africa Republic. It also has Kenya with its regional office there.
GTB offers services that include banking by mobile phone or internet, online banking, and bill payment. It is the first Nigerian bank to issue debit cards that can be used at any point of sale terminal or ATM in Nigeria
It was also among one of its kind that internationally launched a mobile phone application for deposits using the M-Pesa service.
