1. INADEQUATE EXFOLIATING

Exfoliating, Exfoliating, Exfoliating, this is a major key to achieving your desired skin goals. What is Exfoliating? Exfoliating is a process of getting rid of dead skin cells on the skin top layer and getting rid of pore-clogging impurities thereby cleansing and clearing the pores of debris. In a situation whereby the skin is not well or adequately exfoliated your skin care  products can’t penetrate down into the skin epidermis to do it’s job. This is because the skin pores are blocked with dead skin cells and other environment pollutants impurities.

Let’s take for instance, imagine when a sewage is blocked with dirts, the water won’t flow freely right? Now imagine when the dirts are removed boom!! There comes a free flow of water.

Same thing applies to your skin, the skin has little holes visible to bare eyes, it’s called pores, the pores can be blocked by impurities and dead skin cells, which hinders skincare products from penetrating into the skin to do their jobs. See why you should exfoliate your skin before using any skincare products.

So it is dermatologically adviced to properly exfoliate your skin before using your skincare products in other to achieve adequate positive results You can learn how to make a diy Exfoliating scrub here.

2. YOUR SKINCARE PRODUCT CONTAINS LESS ACTIVE INGREDIENT

Some skincare products may contains some lightening ingredient but in a very low percentage, which may not be enough to do the job, it will have to take forever for you to see results and I bet you can’t really wait that long. It’s advised to know the strength or percentage of the active ingredients in the skincare product before purchasing, in order to enjoy it’s full benefits to your skin.

3. YOUR SKINCARE PRODUCT INGREDIENTS HAS DEGRADED OR DESTABILIZED

Ingredients such as Vitamin CL-ascorbic acid ), Kojic acid, Alpha arbutin, retinol can easily degrade when exposed directly to sunlight, or air. They can easily go rancid or destabilized when stored or kept on the shelf for a very long time, So it’s advised to check the expiring date of the product before purchasing.

4 SOME SKINCARE INGREDIENTS DONT GO TOGETHER

Some skincare ingredients aren’t meant to be used together, this is because some ingredients cancel out others, while others when used together can cause skin irritations. Skincare ingredients like Retinol and Vitamin C, both ingredients are very beneficial and vital for skin aging, but when used together on the skin is an overkill and can cause serious skincare irritations such as reddish skin, itchiness, acne and dry skin.

Same goes to Niacinamide and Vitamin C, Niacinanide is a very good ingrident in getting rid of acne and also fights ages spots but when used together with Vitamin C, it cancels out Vitamin C making it go totally useless, thereby causing irritations when used on the skin. So it’s adviced to checkout the ingredients of your skincare Products before purchasing. Learn more on some skincare Ingredients you shouldn’t use together

5. USING SKINCARE PRODUCTS NOT MEANT FOR YOUR SKIN

Some skincare Products are specifically made and meant for a particular skin type. For example, Skincare products with lots of moisturizing ingredients such as oils and butters are specifically meant for dry and sensitive skins, while skincare products with less moisturizing ingredients are meant for normal and oily skins. So in a situation when an individual with dry skin uses a skincare product meant for normal to oily skin, this may trigger break outs and more dryness because his or her skin isn’t getting enough hydration.

6. YOUR SKIN IS PRONE TO SOME SKINCARE INGREDIENTS

Skins can be proned to some or a particular ingredient, when this ingredient is used on the skin, this can trigger break outs, or reactions such as rashes, acne (pimples) itchiness, etc. If you’ve been having breakouts after using a particular skincare product, try to find out what ingredient your skin is prone to, and stop using it as soon as possible.

7. YOU EXFOLIATE TOO MUCH

Like I said earlier exfoliating is very essential and important for your skin in order to enhance better penetration of your skincare products. But in a situation whereby you exfoliate too much, it can cause skin irritations, like break outs, dryness, redness and itchiness.

8. NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE.

Not all body lotions and body creams are made for all skin types. Some are specifically made for a particular skin type.

Example: O’tentika body lotion (brown label) is specifically made for individuals with oily skin. Because the lotion Contains less plant oils. While the O’tentika body lotion (pink label) is specifically made for individuals with dry skin. Because the lotion contains more plant oils.

If an individual with oily skin goes for O’tentika body lotion (pink label) which is meant for dry skin individuals, he or she may end up having breakouts such as acne (pimples), rashes, etc. Because the oils are much in the skin.
