IJMB 2020 Guide – Is IJMB better than JAMB? Between JAMB and IJMB in 2020, which is better? Why? That is what I’m going to discuss in this article.
Today, I will give you eye-opening reasons why IJMB 2020/2021 is better than JAMB.
At the end of this article, I am sure you will be convinced and not confused that IJMB is better that JAMB.
After failing JAMB, a lot of candidates ask themselves, “Should I go for IJMB or other A’level programs or just sit for JAMB again”.
I will also tell you the answers that run through their mind and how they make their final decisions.
Before then, I will like to show you what IJMB is and how it works.
IJMB which stands for Interim Joint Matriculation Board is an A’level program moderated by Ahmadu Bello University.
Does it mean that only Ahmadu Bello University accepts IJMB result for admission? No. A lot of universities accept IJMB result for admission into any course.
HOW IJMB WORKS
How does IJMB work? Or how can I gain admission with IJMB? This is the question I will answer under this heading.
Like I said earlier, IJMB is an A’level program. In fact, it is one of the most common A’level programmes used to gain admission in Nigeria.
Below is how A’level programs like IJMB works:
After you register for IJMB, you will be required to choose one out of the numerous IJMB centres found in different states of the country.
This is where you will receive 9 months lecture from qualified lecturers.
You will also be given recommended textbooks to read along. After the lecturers, you will sit for the IJMB examination.
When you pass the examination, you are qualified for admission into any university that accepts the IJMB result.
You know what? You will gain admission directly into 200L while those that sat for JAMB will gain admission into 100L.
That is one of the reasons why IJMB is better than JAMB. Now, I will give you more reasons why IJMB is better than JAMB
Is IJMB better than JAMB? That is what I am about to show you.
REASONS WHY IJMB IS BETTER THAN JAMB – WHY IJMB 2020?
IJMB IS FASTER
I have explained in this previous paragraph. With IJMB, you stand the chance to gain admission directly into 200L.
This means you spend a year less for a course compared to when you apply with JAMB.
HIGHER CHANCE OF GAINING ADMISSION
This is another major reason why IJMB is better than JAMB. What else do you want apart from gaining admission at your first trial? Yes, it’s true.
More than 1.5millions of candidates register for JAMB yearly. Out of this figure, less than 30% end up gaining admission.
This is due to the high competition and low student intake capacity in Nigeria Universities.
For example, more than 100,000 candidates applied to study in UNILORIN through JAMB in 2017.
Out of these, only 10,000 candidates were admitted, which is less than 10% of the total candidates that applied.
Same thing goes for UI, OAU, UNIBEN, UNILAG and other Federal and State universities.
However, this is not so for IJMB program. It has been proven more that 60% of candidates that apply through IJMB gain admission yearly.

Compare these figures and ask me why. I’ll tell you, it is because:
WITH IJMB, YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Yes, you are not alone! When you register for IJMB, you will be thoroughly lectured by qualified lecturers.
The lecturers you will find at IJMB centres have been properly screened and are found to be qualified for the job.
They will teach you everything you need to know and cover the whole IJMB syllabus for you within 9 months.
All you have to do is to read what you are taught and blast IJMB once and for all!
Let me guess. You are thinking, “But there are UTME tutor centers around that you can attend also if you apply for JAMB”.
Let me make it clear to you. Not all those JAMB tutorial centres have qualified teachers! Also, majority of them do not follow the JAMB syllabus.
Some just teach out of the syllabus. I’m not disputing the fact that there are very good UTME tutor centers. BUT, they are rare and difficult to find.
Moreover, most UTME candidates attend UTME coaching for 2-3months. Do you think that duration is enough to cover the whole JAMB syllabus? Definitely Not!
I hope you understand what I’m trying to say? If no, go over it again. If yes, let’s go to the next point.
IJMB RESULTS HAVE LONGER VALIDITY PERIOD
JAMB has broken the heart of lots of candidates and will continue to. WHY? Majority of the candidate don’t prepare for JAMB to pass the right way.
Yet, a lot of candidates passed JAMB excellently, with score above 300.
Some gained admission with it, while others didn’t. You are surprised? Don’t be!
A lot of candidates don’t gain admission even with 270 above in UTME.
What I’m trying to say is these candidates will have to sit for JAMB again the following year because JAMB result is valid for a year only.
Those high scores in JAMB are just wasted! This is not so with IJMB. The result doesn’t expire so easily like that.
You can still reapply with your IJMB result for at least 7 years!
IJMB GIVES YOU SCHOOL EXPERIENCE
This is another benefit of IJMB over JAMB. You will gain experience of how campus life is like when you apply for IJMB.
You will be ahead of JAMB candidates that write UTME examination from home.
YOU DON’T NEED TO WRITE ANOTHER EXAM
When you sit for UTME, your school of choice may require you to sit for another examination (Post UTME) before gaining admission.
This is especially very common in Federal universities like UI, OAU, UNILAG, UNIBEN, UNILORIN and some state universities too.
This is not the case with IJMB or any other A’level. Once you pass your IJMB examination, you will not be required to sit for any other examination again.
Now, after all these benefits of IJMB over JAMB, why do fewer candidates apply for IJMB and rather choose UTME? That is what I’m going to tell you now.
In this second paragraph of this article, I said. “After failing JAMB, a lot of candidates ask themselves, “Should I go for IJMB or other A’level programs or just sit for JAMB again”.
I promised to tell you what run through their minds and how they make their final decision. Let me quickly fulfil that promise.
Below are the things that run through the minds of such people before making a decision:
1. COST – This is the major reason why candidates don’t apply for IJMB. While JAMB form can be purchased with #6,200, you will spend more than #150,000 registering for IJMB.
NOTE: This money include the registration fee, examination fee, textbooks fee and lecture fee.
People feel this money is too much and so they opt in for UTME form. If you’d ask me, “I will say the money worth it. If you have the money, go for it!”
Go over the merits of IJMB over JAMB again and tell me if it is not worth it. Don’t forget that 100L expenses will be left out when you gain admission with IJMB directly into 200L for the 2020/2021 session.
If you calculate the money UTME candidates will spend in 100L, you will find out you are at advantage over them.
2. DIFFICULTY – This is another thing that runs through the mind of candidates. They believe IJMB is very hard. They think, “What if I fail, will I just waste the money like that?” They forget that a lot of candidates fail JAMB yearly.
It is what you know that will take you ahead. If you attend lectures and read extensively, you will pass IJMB 2020. It is as simple as that!
3. FEW PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT IT – While more than 1.5million candidates apply for UTME yearly, only few have knowledge of what IJMB is about.
4. FEAR OF SCAMMERS – The fear of scammers the beginning of wisdom. There are lots of scammers out there that claim to the IJMB agents. Nobody wants to pay such huge amount of money, only to fall into the hands of scammers. This is why you need to be very careful before paying for IJMB programme.
Make sure you research very well before paying to anyone.
