Chinese manufacturer, Xiaomi, is once again pushing the limits of fast charging by unveiling two new ultra-fast chargers. The first, with a power of 200W, can recharge the battery of a smartphone in just 8 minutes, a real feat. The second is wireless and can recharge a 4000 mAh battery in just 15 minutes thanks to its power of 120W.
It only takes 44 seconds for the 4000 mAh battery of the Mi 11 Pro (modified) to reach 10% with the wired charger built with HyperCharge technology and only 3 minutes to reach 50%.
Fast Charge to Replace Big Batteries
Failure to offer batteries with a capacity exceeding three days has seen some smartphone manufacturers explore the technology of fast charging. Brands like Vivo, Oppo, or even Xiaomi, have taken bold steps to actualising this target.
Earlier in the year, Xiaomi unveiled an 80W wireless technology, capable of achieving full chare under 20 minutes. In January, Luo Yuyu Zhou, CEO of Black Shark, congratulated himself on the impressive 120W charging of the Black Shark 4: less than 15 minutes to go from 0 to 100% charge.
Today, the aforementioned Chinese giants have brandished yet another charging technology. The wired variant will hand you a fully charged 4000 mAh device in just eight minutes, which is a new world record, while the wireless compatriot capped at 120W will achieve the same result in just seven minutes more.
Fast charging has now become the new sweetener of smartphone manufacturers based in China, giving them a significant edge over their Asian, European and American counterparts.
According to The Verge:
“It should be noted, however, that these fast charging systems still require proprietary chargers and cables, so they will mostly be used in the home rather than in emergency situations where they might be the most useful. ”
An iPhone 12 which also boasts a fast charging feature has been left in the dust by this new advancement. With ‘only’ a power of 20W to show for, it is ten times inferior to the Xiaomi’s new solution.
Xiaomi Setting The Pace
By always pushing the limits of fast charging further, Xiaomi tries to stand out from the competition, while offering a solution to batteries whose capacities remain quite limited, despite notable improvements over the years. By accelerating the charging of phones, manufacturers are trying to make people forget the lack of autonomy of their products.
Xiaomi is currently promoting its new fast charging technology on social networks, especially on Twitter. The Chinese manufacturer has published a video in which it demonstrates the efficiency of its new 200 W HyperCharge system using a Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro smartphone.

In its video, Xiaomi does not give any technical details on its method to achieve such a charging speed.
The Chinese brand has gotten into the habit of regularly presenting new technologies, such as remote charging , without always integrating in consumer products. This allows Xiaomi to gain brand image.
Between the demonstrations and their integration into the phones, is a wide gulf.
Fast Charge Not Really the Best Thing Since Sliced Bread
Unfortunately, fast charges have a direct impact on the life of the batteries, due to the heat generated by the product. This is why the manufacturer has returned to a more traditional charger with its Mi 11, 55W wired fast charger.
While waiting to find a more durable alternative to lithium batteries, manufacturers will have to find solutions to maintain the integrity of current batteries, despite rapid recharges.
Despite Xiaomi’s demonstration, nothing says that the HyperCharge technology will one day be taken into account by the manufacturer’s smartphones.
