LIST OF TOXIC BODY LOTIONS YOU SHOULD NEVER USE – ZIGIHOW.COM.NG
The skin is the largest organ of the body, its a tissue that protects and covers the body surface. Our skin defines who we are, and this is one of the main reason why we should be careful on what we apply on our dear skin. We should try to ensure our skincare products contains no toxic or harsh chemicals that may harm the skin or cause some serious skin allergies. We have taken our time to list out some toxic body lotions you should never use on your skin, avoid them at all cost, don’t even give any of them a try, because these products can cause serious side effects or can even damage your skin for good due to long term use.
The lotions about to be mentioned in this article contains ingredients which has proven to cause serious skin side effects when used for a long term. These ingredients are topical steroids, mecury, and hydroquinone,
Topical Steroids
Topical steroids are the topical forms of corticosteroids. They are the most commonly prescribed topical medications for the treatment of rash, eczema, and dermatitis. Topical steroids have anti-inflammatory properties.
Steroids are used under supervision and prescription by doctors and dermatologists and to be used in a short term.
Long term usage of steroid can cause all sorts of complications such as thinning of the skin, acne, red stretch marks and discolouration.
Worse still, the steroids in these body lotions can act like cortisol, a hormone made by the body to deal with stress. Too much cortisol can cause a myriad of problems, including swelling of the face and abdomen, weight gain, thin skin that bruises easily, weak muscles, high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis and depression.
It can also fool the body into ceasing cortisol production. So, if someone suddenly stops using these creams, they could become seriously ill because their stress hormones have been temporarily “turned off”.
Mercury
Mercury on the other hand is a no no, it’s a toxic ingredient that should not be used on the skin atall. I wonder why some skincare brands use mercury in producing their skincare products, this is inhumane.
Mercury is an inexpensive skin-lightening ingredient which can effectively remove dark spots and lighten your skintone. Because mercury is inexpensive, so many skincare companies now uses it in producing their skincare products, ranging from body lotions, serums down to soaps, which is very bad.
Do you know the implications of using mercury on your skin?
If you’re using a mercury-laden skin lightener, the product may cause skin rashes, scars, discolored skin, anxiety, or depression.
In some cases long-term application of mercury laden skin lightener may lead to cancer.
Mercury toxicity often causes skin rashes and inflammation (dermatitis).
Large amounts of absorbed mercury can spread to other organ systems resulting in mental changes including mood swings and memory loss or renal damage. Muscle weakness may also occur.
Hydroquinone
Hydroquinone is used to get rid of tough or stubborn dark spots and dark patches. It is usually prescribed by dermatologists to treat skin pigmentation and discoloration. But when it’s used for a long period of time it becomes bad. Hydroquinone is meant to be used within three months.
Exceeding the required can cause some serious side effects such as dermatitis (skin irritation), cataracts and blue-black skin discolouration. It may sometimes cause an offensive fish odour in the user.
They can also cause severe skin redness, burning, or stinging, severe skin dryness, cracking, or bleeding and blisters or oozing.
Asides these three ingredients mentioned above, there are lots of ingredients that can cause severe skin irritations, side effects and allergies. But the above mentioned ingredients are the mostly used ingredients in skincare products. You can read how to know if your skincare lightening products contains hydroquinone.
This is why you should be careful while purchasing your skincare products. You can read other skincare ingredients you should never put on your skin.
Without much ado, let’s see the list of body lotions containing either topical steroids, mercury, and hydroquinone. They were tested in the laboratory and comfirmed to contain these ingredients.
