In this article we’re going to put you guys through on how to make a simplified diy Vitamin C serum.
HERE WE GO:
INGREDIENTS NEEDED.
- 1½ teaspoon Vitamin C powder l’ascorbic acid or Sodium ascorbyle phosphate (don’t buy the pharmaceutical Vitamin C tablets)
We have different forms of vitamin C
Sodium Ascorbyle phosphate has proven to be the best, it doesn’t oxidize quickly just like L’ascorbic acid does, and it causes no irritations, it’s suitable for both sensitive and normal skin.
On the other hand L’ascorbic acid form of vitamin C may cause slight irritations on a sensitive skin, so it’s advised to do a patch test before using and that’s why manufactures uses more moisturizers in Vitamin C serums especially when using l’ascorbic acid form of Vitamin C powder.

Other ingredients to use.
- 2 teaspoon Hyaluronic acid serum (For deep moisturizing or hydrating)
- 2 teaspoon Rose water (if you don’t have it, you can use a distilled or filtered water)
Note: Don’t use a tap water, if you must use it, then boil it for 3 minutes allow to cool before usage.
- 1 Teaspoon Aleo Vera gel
(cosmetics grade) it’s advised to use cosmetics grade to make it more easier to incorporate, fresh aleo vera gel from plant has lumps. But if you must use fresh aloe vera gel, ensure to blend the gel in a blender to ensure the lumps blend together properly before use. - 1 Teaspoon Preservatives
It’s recommended to us Optiphen plus.
If you don’t wanna use Preservatives or you don’t have a Preservatives, you can store this mixure in your refrigerator.
Note: make this serum is small batches so you can use them faster before it oxidizes l’ascorbic acid form of Vitamin C isn’t stable and won’t last more than 1 month.
But if you’re using Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate form of vitamin C, then you can make in Large quantities with Preservatives or stored in the refrigerator, because it’s more stable.

METHOD OF PREPARATION
In a small bowl, combine the vitamin C powder and rose water or filtered water. Whisk the ingredients until the vitamin C powder is completely dissolved. Once dissolved, stir in hyaluronic acid serum the aloe vera gel.
- Then add your Preservatives
Pour the serum into a dark amber bottle (a funnel helps). If you don’t have a Preservative or maybe you don’t want to use a Preservative then Store the serum in the fridge or refrigerator.
