HERE WE GO
VITAMINE C + RETINOL
This two ingridients dont go too well together. Retinol works best at a ph of 5.5-6 . Vitamin C in its pure form of l-ascorbic acid needs a ph of 3.5 or lower. That’s where the problem is.
It’s very tricky to formulate a product at a ph that’ll satisfy both vitamin C and retinol. But, that doesn’t mean they’re useless or worthless together (there are so many great products out there that contain both). They still work, just not to their full potential or benefits.
HOW TO USE
Use vitamin C during the day and use retinol during the night before you go to bed, with this method of application you will reap the full benefits of both ingredients.
NIACINAMIDE + VITAMIN C
This combo don’t cross the same path, Research has shown that both ingredients are ineffective when combined together.
1. Niacinamide turns Vitamin C yellow, making it ineffective.
2. Mixing Niacinamide with Vitamin C turns it into Niacin, a substance that can have temporary flushing and tingling in people with inflammatory acne or erythema.
HOW TO USE
Use separatly apply naicin and wait for an hour before applying vitamin C, if you don’t have much time to waste then choose times to use them in a week maybe use niacin Monday to Wednesday then use Vitamin C Thursday to Saturday
VITAMIN C + GLYCOLIC ACID
Seriously you don’t really wanna use this conbo on you skin, vitamin c in its pure form called L’acorbic acid is very acidic in nature, glycolic acid on its on is also very acidic.
Glycolic acid works by Exfoliating the skin removing the top layers and also the dead cells of the skin, most people with sensitive skin dont use glycolic acid or they use it at its lowest percentage and use moisturizers too, Vitamin C (L’ascorbic acid) works as an anti aging product which fights fine lines and wrinkles, Vitamin C Serums are loaded with moisturizer as not to turn the skin reddish, combination of both Vitamin C and glycolic acid will make the skin reddish and maybe itchy and dried out.You can learn how to make a diy Vitamin C oil .
HOW TO USE
If you must use vitamin C and glycolic acid, then use it on separate days, use vitamin C and leave two days gap before using glycolic acid, and please moisturize your skin.
RETINOL + ALPHA HYDROXY ACIDS,
Alpha hydroxy ingredients (AHA) such as glycol and lactic acids shouldn’t be combined with retinol.
Retinol is a synthesized Vitamin A which works as an anti aging ingredients, it battles fine lines and wrinkles, by peeling off the dead skin cells and revealing that fresh skin underneath, it works an an exfoliant, Retinol is normally called retin-a, which comes in a tube, which either takes a form of a gel or cream.
If you wanna learn more about.
Alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) on the other hand does a similar job which retinol does, its just that Retinol is more potent and more powerful and effective, but both performs a similar function to the skin, the likes of Citric acid (which is extracted form citrus plants such as lime, lemon and oranges) lactic acid which is extracted from milk, all this ingredients are used for exfoliating the skin, using both at the same time will be very disastrous to your dear skin, it will dry out your skin, it may give you a massive breakout and also cause redness.
HOW TO USE
Its advicable to use one only and ditch the other the both can’t be combined, using them in a separate days may even still cause breakout for some people, especially individuals with sensitive skin, to be on a safer side its either you choose Retinol or any of the alpha hydroxy acids.
RETINOL + BENZOYL PEROXIDE
Benzoyl peroxide is a medication used to treat mild acne, it usually comes in a tube, in most cases people using benzoyl peroxide for their acne treatment complaines that the acne worsens during the first week of application and gradually reduces its irritation till the acne evacuates, this is also how retinol product works it fights acne, wrinkles and age spots, users experience irritations using retin a during the first week of application but this irritation is as the result of skin turn over, because retin a fights acne from the inside it brings everything, acne and pimples outside the surface of the skin, that is why it looks horrible during the first week of application, what I’m trying to say is Retin a and benzoyl peroxide should not be used together.
HOW TO USE
Its shouldn’t be used together, choose one and ditch the other.
KOJIC ACID + BLACK SOAP
You may be wondering why I included kojic acid and black soap to the list, kojic acid is a lightening agent derived from mushrooms its acidic in nature and something irritates individuals with sensitive skin, that’s why it’s adviced to use moisturizer and a mild soap while using a kojic acid lotion, cream or serum.
Black soap on the other hand mostly African black soap contains Lemon and lime, some contains tumeric powder, combination of a black soap that contains the above mentioned ingredients and kojic acid will put your skin in trouble, it will cause irritations and dryness, while using kojic acid products use moisturizers and a mild soap,(baby soap if possible) same goes when you’re making use of black soap, if you don’t moisturize your skin after taking shower with a black soap you may experience irritations because it contains lemon or lime which is acidic in nature, and it’s categorized in the family of citrus.
